DONT DO IT!!!!
Reselling host space is not going to make you any money, and IS going to cause you a ton of headache.
The only reason to resell hosting space is so that you can offer clients a package deal. Even then, it is FAR easier on you in the long run to simply charge a setup fee and get them going with a hosting service.

It should be the client / hosts problem is the hosting goes down. If you take on reseller status, and the host has issues, YOU are going to get the call. Sure.. you can bounce it, but it’s still time out of your day to deal with problems that are not yours, and are not making you any money. The only way you can make any money is to charge more than the going rate for hosting… right? I mean. fine you get a some site space for $ 10 a month and resell it for what? $ 15 maybe $ 20? It takes a LOT of ten dollar bills per month to make a living. You will need to have like 300 to 700 clients to make it worth the bother.

Sorry. Concentrate your efforts elsewhere is my advice.

I am kind of confused with your question. I think that I have the answer you need. You need to create a wordpress file for mysite.com. You can then download the theme you used for the mysite.com/test and then upload to the mysite.com.

First of all, you should go to godaddy.com:)

2nd, there’s no need to let domains expire, HOWEVER if you’re close to renewal time, you cannot transfer them, as a rule, and you cannot if you just renewed. You have to wait 60 days.. I would check hostmonster documentation about before.

But you do have to use the EPP code. This is standard operating procedure. You have to unlock your domains as well to do it.

Read up on your new registrar’s procedure as well. Make sure your email addresses are correct – that you can get email.

THe move should be painless. It takes a day or two for dns propagation across the internet. Keep the old sites up for a few days that way you won’t lose email. It will either go to the old host or the new.

If you let the domain name expire, you have to wait 30 -60 days again if you want to register with a new registrar. If you renew within the grace period, you’re stuck at the old registrar.

1 – GoDaddy is under $ 5/month.

#2 – if you already have it, but I wouldn’t spend $ 10 on it. I build sites using Edit Plus (because I have it – Notepad++ is just as good and it’s free).

#3 – Any text editor can build any site (using a graphics editor for the graphics, of course).

But here;s my guess.

Youre on a UNIX system, so use dd (disk to disk) on the raw device. You’re likely on a raw device, but if not, ask to be moved to one temporarily.

Template driven websites aren’t very good, they all look cookie cutter. I think your best bet is to actually hire someone to design your website. In the long run you’ll probably get a better looking product, a site optimized for search engines, and increased profits.

Depends on how much traffic you expect. A shared hosting plan should be OK if your total monthly download is less than 10GB. More than that should be hosted on a dedicated server. VPS hosting would be overkill unless you expect a huge amount of traffic.

Your best bet is to start small, then add bandwidth/server space as needed (it’s just a phone call away). HostGator is a good hosting service, excellent customer service, middle of the road pricing, excellent uptime. There are other hosting companies that might be a better match, but it’s all about planning at this point – you’llneed to know what level of traffic you’ll get at first to know what service to go with – thinking ahead and looking at the hosting companies’ prices at higher service levels so you’ll know what you’re in for when your traffic starts booming.

As for CPU and memory usage, a shared hosting plan should be ok with a few videos at a time. Once you see the traffic trends, adjust as needed from there.

I’ve heard hostgator is pretty good, though I’ve never tried them myself.

But really, unlimited hosting is usually unnecessary. And as you’ve probably noticed, it’s hard to find one that’s reliable because they generally oversell and the servers crash. I think it’s more important to figure out how much space you’ll need. More likely than not, what you’ll need a lot of is bandwidth, not so much webspace. You could have an incredibly small site in webspace (like under 5MB) but use bandwidth like crazy if you get a lot of visitors.

I am trying to build a new website with my new webhost, HostGator. My question is…all of the templates that I am interested in say that Photoshop 6+ is recommended. I am new to this whole make a website thing and i just bought a new domain name through hostgator and now i have some videos i would like yo post. So I serached on google and got a FTP Client and it is Filezilla then logged into my site. Then clicked on the the only folder and a bunch more came up. Now this is the part i dont know what to do. I want the videos to go on a page not on the homepage but i dont know what folder to put them in.

Use SmartFTP instead it is much better and free offcourse for Non-Commercial purpose. Just Copy the video from ur System and go to Your website panel in SmartFTP and paste it whereever and which ever folder u want it will send the video file. Then go to http://yourwebsite.com/cpanel and check the file take the url and insert that is Video embed tag of ur page or download tag.

Its easy fast and reliable depends on your net speed

I took a step by step 6 day eCourse through a site called Kleek.Ca about a month ago called “Pocket Change Profits” and it took me through the whole process of setting up your blog for under $ 5 per month so I followed through with it. So far so good, I’m just having trouble driving traffic and subscribers to my website…

Any suggestions?

The site sold no products or anything and the course walked me through DETAILED methods and showed me how to host and make my blog step by step which made it seem scam free =) It even gave me links for discounts to some really popular sites like GoDaddy and HostGator! I only had to pay 1 penny to have my site hosted for a month which made it risk free. I am really impressed with the course I took, but I just want to know how to improve traffic to my website!

I can’t stop raving about this really great eCourse either so if you get a moment I would definitely take the time to check it out! I figure why spend all this time answering questions when you could take part of that time and make a blog =)

I need a host for my website, which will be for my graphic portfolio. My web building skills are limited so a site building option would be great, at least to get me through until my skills get better – but I don’t want to use anything tacky like wix. I don’t want to use a free site because it looks really unprofessional.

It also must allow me to pay my hosting account using paypal because  I feel more secure with this option – it’s non negotiable.

I have looked at many hosting services, and of course none will be 100% positive, but hostgator for example has so many negative reviews, and their facebook page is filled with complaints.

I just cannot decide which host to go with! It’s really frustrating.

Can anyone give me some advice or recommendations?

I would suggest using either Linode, Rackspace, or Godaddy. Do you know the type of hosting you want( Shared, VPS, Dedicated server, Cloud)? Shared is going to be the easiest, but provides very little flexibility. VPS, Dedicated and Cloud can provide lost of flexibility but are not for noobs :-).

Hopefully this doesn’t sound like a stupid question. I can’t figure out where I should go to edit the html coding of my website. I already

a. have a domain name
b. have web hosting (hostgator)
c. linked my domain name to the host, and
d. know html/css, so I don’t want to use wordpress or a site builder like doodlekit but rather am looking to use my own template, but,

I can’t figure out where to upload the code itself. I’m assuming I’m missing some steps here since I’m relatively new to this. I’m moving over from blogger, where I’m used to clicking on a link and it brings me to a page where I can simply edit my code. Any help would be great!

with your own website, unless you have accounts and a login you have to reupload the site after changing it on your pc, or you go through ftp and edit the file there.

Blogger will not accept /blog, but as it happens when the website was created they pointed the main domain to the opt-in page so that can easily be changed to the blog and the opt-in become a subsidiary page like the sales page is.
*So…is there an advantage to having the blog use the same url as my ebook or its own.
*As the blog and ebook will be targeting the same keywords, should I split up the keywords and optimize some to the blog and others to the ebook page?
*Will backlinks from my blog with a different url hold more weight than what would be internal links if the ebook and blog are on the same url?
*AND would the blogger blog then be hosted by Hostgator who already are hosting my site, or would blogger still be doing the hosting of the blog??? This is confusing me a little.

Can’t quite understand what you’re trying to achieve here. If you have a hostgator account, the ideal scenario would be to use or input an addon domain with the name (or a specific keyword or phrase) relating to your ebook.

Let’s say your ebook was called: “How To Overcome Stuttering in 30 Days.” I’d have done my research first on specific keywords that relate to your niche. I’d find a good term that gets a fair bit of traffic “Overcome Stuttering” or a similar long tail keyphrase and use that phrase for the domain name. What i’d do then is then activate a wordpress blog within your cpanel and put the blog in a directory with your 2nd best keyword phrase or term relating to your ebook for example: www.OvercomeStuttering.com/stop-stuttering etc.

Makes better sense and after finding and building good backlinks, your website will certainly start to gather momentum and found organically as well.

I’ve been using Godaddy’s shared hosting for a while, but as I’ve developed more sites that require more CPU usage, I’m thinking of getting a VPS to host my sites on, as shared hosting can’t handle my CPU intensive programs.

So, I’ve been looking around for a good VPS provider. Because I’ve been working with Godaddy, and there hasn’t been any problems with it (except some annoying customer support issues), it’s definitely on my list.

Another provider I’ve heard about is HostGator. One of my friends is using their shared hosting plan, and they have generally good reviews.

I’m asking here and not looking online, as it’s quite hard to get what seems like an unbiased opinion on hosting.

So, what’s your opinion on VPS providers? Thanks!

I use Hosgator VPS for around three month, and it’s really good compared to share host ;). Don’t know if the coupon ONECENTHOST1 can help you get 1 month free because my friend buy the VPS from Hosgator and we share.

BQ: Which is better: Flash or HTML?

I want a professional, jazzy website and i’m just not satisfied with the quality of templates/designs that are available through the domain hosting websites like Godaddy or Hostgator. I want a site that looks like I spent some major cash on it. But, I don’t really want to spend the cash.

Is there a “For Dummies” book on web designing that I can buy to learn as I go? I want to launch a website by the year end and i’m already working on articles for inclusion on the site.

Is this an unrealistic goal? Also, what software is the best for novice individuals like myself?

Today i was installing wordpress blog on my site. After installing it, i installed 2 plug-ins:all-in-one-seo-pack & google-sitemap-generator.3.2.4. Then i started changing the default settings. In Permalink settings, i selected “Custom Structure” option & entered %category%/%postname% in the text field in front of it. And as you may know, it is Search engine friendly format. When i clicked on “Save Changes” button, it was supposed to display some code there, a code of few lines, which we have to insert in .htaccess file which is in the directory where we have installed the WP blog. This code is very important bcoz using this method, our blog becomes more search engine friendly!
But i didn’t get any code! There was no code displayed after i clicked “Save Changes” button!
Actually i learned this method of making our blog more search engine friendly in a video tutorial. In the tutorial, that person was using some other hosting service(HostGator i guess). I am from India & i am using an Indian web hosting service from B4UIndia.com
Is the way of getting that code different for different hosting services?(I dont think so!)
Bcoz as per my knowledge, that’s how we get that piece of code & paste it in .htaccess file. Also i didn’t find the file .htaccess in the directory where i installed the WP blog.
Plz tell me what to do. Also if you have some Indian friends who are using B4UIndia as hosting service for their site, plz tell them about my problem.

The htaccess file will be in the root directory.

Newer versions of wordpress do not require you to copy and paste the code generated. If you are using a new version of wordpress, it should work. Have you actually tested a link?
